Ramadan: Spiritual Breezes

Ramadan: Spiritual Breezes

By: Zafar Hashim Mubarakpuri

The gentle breeze of the blessed month of Ramadan is upon us, holding a special and honored place in our hearts. The pious people await this sacred month with enthusiasm and eagerness throughout the year, and upon its arrival, their hearts are filled with joy.

This is the month of fasting, prayer and worship — a time of giving alms to the needy and poor, performing Umrah, offering charity, and increasing in good deeds.

Allah has made Fasting compulsory for Muslims during the whole month of Ramadan. Fasting doesn't mean merely refraining from eating and drinking, it is a discipline of behaviour and spirit. It is a training in patience and self-control, and it makes Muslims realize the value of the blessings they often forget during the rest of the year.

Ramadan is the month in which the Holy Qur'an was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and decisive authority. During this month, Muslims increase their efforts in reciting and listening to the Holy Qur'an, reflecting on its verses and following its teachings in their behaviour.

During this blessed month, the Masajid are illuminated by Taraweeh prayers, Qiyam al-Layl, and the peaceful observance of I'tikaf. Muslims recite the Holy Qur'an in a melodious voice, and they feel calm and content.

Allah has described the Night of Decree as better than a thousand months. During this night, sustenance and lifespans are ordained and the rewards of good deeds are multiplied. Muslims strive to revive it through worship and prayer, seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to forgive their deceased and loved ones.

The month of Ramadan is a source of social solidarity, where Muslims compete in doing good deeds, such as offering iftar to those who are fasting and extending a helping hand towards needy and poor. It is also a time when the family relationships are strengthened by gathering together to share Iftar and Suhur at one table.

The month of Ramadan is a golden opportunity to renew the belief in Allah Almighty, and it's a divine school in which Muslims learn patience, gratitude and generosity.

Ramadan may have ended, but the journey to our Lord continues. Let's always ask Allah to guide us to the right path!

Ramadan: The month of Blessings, Mercy and virtues

Ramadan: The month of Blessings, Mercy and virtues

By: Zafar Hashim Mubarakpuri

We have entered one of the greatest and most blessed months of the year, the holy month of Ramadan. Today is the first day of Ramadan in India. Ramadan is a month of blessings, mercy, forgiveness and freedom from the Hell-fire. Ramadan is a month of virtues, goodness, prosperity, charity and generosity.
Ramadan is a month in which the hearts come together in obedience, prayers and charity. Ramadan is a month in which the greatest and most abundant meanings of faith, blessings, benevolence and noble characters are embodied. This beautiful month is considered a spiritual season, and a special time of the year in which the meanings of obedience and worship become manifest.

Ramadan is the month of the Qur'an and forgiveness. We must seize the opportunity of this holy month by worshipping and remembering Allah, spending more time in prayers, reciting the holy Qur'an and praying for ourselves and others. During this Ramadan, people need to increase their worship of Allah in their lives. When a human being draws closer to Allah, they will also become closer to the people, especially in this beautiful month.

We must also treat people kindly, and our behaviour towards others should be good. It's very important for everyone to promote this practice, whether during the blessed month of Ramadan or after it, so it becomes a lasting and sustainable act of devotion.

The value of generosity and bounty in this holy month is considered one of the best and noblest qualities. Hastening to help the needy and poor is truly worthy, as this month enhances and encourages such acts. In fact, there is a lot to do in this blessed month to grow and glorify it.

We ask Allah Almighty to forgive our shortcomings during this blessed month. May He accept our Ramadan, purify our hearts and make it a means of becoming close to Him!
